Provost Newsletter - August 2025
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the start of the new fall semester! I hope you had a restorative summer and are returning with renewed energy and inspiration.
This year, we are thrilled to welcome 116 new faculty members to our academic community, along with four brand-new endowed chair positions. Their expertise and enthusiasm will enrich our shared mission of teaching, research, and service. We also greet a projected incoming class of over 3,600 new first-year students, whose curiosity and spirit remind us why our work matters.
We extend a warm welcome to several new administrators—Deans David Szymanski and Michael Young, and Vice Provost Coretta Pittman—who bring fresh perspectives and a deep commitment to our Christian mission and institutional values. At the same time, we honor colleagues in transition: Dean Linda Plank, who will retire following the spring semester, and Dean Lee Nordt, who will return to the faculty next summer. We are deeply grateful for their leadership and lasting contributions.
Even in times of change and uncertainty, our community continues to demonstrate resilience, creativity, and purpose. I am excited about the year ahead and confident in our collective ability to meet challenges and embrace new opportunities. Thank you for all you do.
Warm regards,
Nancy Brickhouse, Ph.D.
Provost

Faculty training will be held on October 3 (12-1 p.m.) via Teams, with a recording available afterward. Office hours for one-on-one support will be offered in late November, December, and early January.
Reminder: International Student Late Arrival Policy and New Visa Appointment Deadlines
Baylor allows limited late arrivals for international students due to visa delays. While the late arrival policy remains unchanged, we are implementing new deadlines for visa appointments to help ensure students arrive within the approved timeframe.
Undergraduate international students may still request late arrival if they are fully enrolled and can arrive no later than September 1, the sixth day of the fall term. To be eligible, students must now have a visa appointment scheduled on or before August 11. Graduate students may request late arrival through the 11th day of the term, no later than September 9, with approval from their program advisor or graduate program director. Graduate students must have their visa appointment scheduled by August 18.
Extenuating circumstances will still be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The full policy details are available online.
