Vice Provost Null to Return to School of Education Full Time

August 20, 2025

Faculty and Staff:

As we begin the fall semester, J. Wesley (Wes) Null, Ph.D., who has served more than 14 years as our Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Academic Affairs, asked that I share his plans to return to his tenured faculty appointment as Professor of Curriculum & Foundations of Education at the conclusion of the Spring 2026 semester.  At that time, he will conclude 15 years of service as a Vice Provost.

Dr. Null has been a steady and thoughtful presence in the Office of the Provost through seasons of transition and challenge. His ability to remain focused on what matters most – our students and their success – has been instrumental in advancing our undergraduate education efforts. It is especially meaningful that Dr. Null concludes his distinguished service in a year when Baylor is celebrating a record-setting four-year graduation rate, a milestone that reflects decades of his dedication and leadership.

In addition to returning to his tenured faculty position, Dr. Null also will assume the role of Graduate Program Director for Baylor’s Curriculum & Teaching Ph.D. program, which he helped to create in 2009 and is excited to position for even greater success in the years to come. Following a sabbatical, he is looking forward to being back in the classroom teaching graduate students in the School of Education and undergraduate students in the Honors College, as well as having more time to write as an active researcher on the history of American education and curriculum theory.

Dr. Null joined the Baylor faculty in 2001 and the Office of the Provost in January 2011. As Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Academic Affairs, Dr. Null is responsible for several significant areas within our office, including overseeing all aspects of Baylor’s SACSCOC accreditation efforts, supervising the process of undergraduate curriculum revision, coordinating with all academic units on campus to achieve goals related to student success, and collaborating with other universities/colleges to establish articulation and exchange agreements.

Sincerely,

Nancy Brickhouse, Ph.D.
Provost
