Academic Support for Students
Paul L. Foster Success Center: Faculty are in the best position to identify the early warning signs that might lead to academic failure. The chance of getting a student back on track to successfully complete a course occurs when the faculty member contacts the student directly as soon as the student:
- Starts missing class.
- Fails to turn in assignments.
- Earns low grades on exams or assignments.
If faculty contact has not resulted in improved academic performance, the faculty member can make a referral to the Paul L. Foster Success Center. The referral system can be accessed here or from the Faculty/Staff webpage. Only the instructor of record can make a referral as it requires the instructor's BearID and password.
Referrals are received by an Academic Support Advisor within the Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE). The advisor will contact the student and discuss the various resources available to the student to get back on track academically.
Reporting Academic Concerns: The Paul L. Foster Success Center will initiate the progress report campaign online beginning the 6th week of the semester. This is the same system you may use at any point during the semester to alert the Success Center of students at risk of failing a course. Only the instructor of record should access progress reports using the EAB Navigate system, as it requires the instructor's BearID and password.
Instructions for accessing and filling out progress reports can be found on the Student Success website.
Counseling Resources: Counseling is one of the services provided by Health Services, located in the Student Life Center. Faculty are in an optimal position to identify early warning signs that might indicate a need to refer a student to the Counseling Center.
Resources designed specifically for faculty and staff are found on the Counseling Center website.
